Behr's Birth Story

*Blogging while pumping (it seems it's all I do these days)*

Well he is here! Our new baby boy: Behrendt "Behr" Kucera Schulz.

I wanted to document his birth story so we can go back and relive that special day. It's already been about a month and I can feel the small details fleeting, so I need to get in on paper.

5:00 am

Mimi arrives to take care of Rhynder as we pack up to head to the hospital for our scheduled 6am induction. I couldn't sleep at all (50% excitement, 50% being uncomfortable) so I made some bacon, egg and cheese tacos for breakfast and packed some for a snack at the hospital. We were ALMOST out the door when Rhynder happened to wake up - it was like she sensed us about to leave. So we got a last picture of just the 3 of us, gave kisses and hugs and packed up the car to Swedish hospital.

6:00 am

When we arrived, they didn't have us down in "the books"' because my doctor forgot to change our induction date (we were originally scheduled for 2 days later). Luckily they had a room open and we were able to get admitted.

8:00 am

They gave me Pitocin to get the party started.

Started to get contractions, but couldn't feel them yet. So a lot of hanging out, watching tv (we watched The Bear - we thought it was fitting), playing cards and eating snacks

11:00 am

They broke my water - then I REALLY started to feel the contractions. Ate lunch, labored on the ball, was counting down to my epidural.

12 pm

Got my epidural and it was heaven.

4 pm

Time to start pushing. Pushed through 3 contractions and Behr was here! Kyle cut the cord and my doctor showed me my placenta (where the baby had been living for 9 months). It was cool but gross. Did skin to skin for about 2 hours before moving to the postpartum and recovery floor.

 6pm

Said goodbye to our amazing nurse, Shannon. She started her shift right as we got admitted and was getting off right after we left labor and delivery. She was with us the whole time and was wonderful.

Dad took a nap then went to walk Bran/get a fan for our room - it was so hot and there was no way we were going to survive the night without one.

The next day we had a lot of visitors including Kyle's sister, Maggie, my good friend, Barbie, Co-ma, Mimi, Grump and of course big sister Rhy!

We went home that night and started this fun adventure as a family of 4!

The only complaint of the entire experience was this gnarly bruise I got from my IV. Oh well, if that was my only complaint, I'll take it! :)
